My name is Michelle Canazaro. I am a world class athlete, an administrative assistant and I have autism. I am writing as I have an opportunity to compete at the highest level of sport and need your help. I have been selected to the USA Alpine Ski Team to compete at the Special Olympics Winter World Games in Austria in 2017. While my expenses are covered, I need your help to send my coach and mentor to cheer me on – my Mom - Nancy Canazaro. This is a “Go Fund Me” account to send my Mom to Austria.
My mom is why I am here. Fortunately, for me, she had me diagnosed early and I started school at age 3. And although classified as disabled, mom instilled independence, discipline and competitive spirit in both her daughters. I graduated High school with my class and went on to technical college where I earned a certificate as an Administrative Assistant.
But my passion is sports. Sports makes me whole and happy. I have excelled in stand-up paddle boarding and alpine skiing. Yes, Alpine Skiing may seem odd for a South Florida girl, but it isn’t really, as the two sports share the same skills – balance, no fear of speed going down the mountain or sharks when out on the ocean.
Competition is the driving force in my life and I have been a Special Olympics competitor over the past 18 years. Great athletes need mentors and coaches. Lucky for me, my mom has been there right from the start. She pushed me to do more and has watched countless hours of practice, games and tournaments. Failure is not an option in our household. And the word “no” is not in her vocabulary. She’s my biggest fan and has supported Special Olympics as a volunteer and a chaperone - and she’s my Mom. As I have been chosen to be on Team USA, and will be competing against the best from around the world, I really want to share this experience with her. I want to make it happen.
Please help me raise the funds so she can experience this once in a lifetime event with me. She has given me so much and is a large part of who I am, and has witnessed all that I have accomplished. Please help me give back. Please donate what you can. Share my story with your family and friends.
